How to bring your pet to Dubai

I wrote once before about the cost of veterinary treatment of pets in Dubai. In the near future will write more about it (cost of treatment, food etc.). Now I tell you what to do if you want to bring your pet to Emirates.

Bringing a pet to UAE

As you know, Klusek come with me from Poland, we had a little trouble with that but finally we managed. To bring a pet to the UAE you must obtain an 'import permit'. The local Ministry of the Environment and Water has created a special page that you can use to apply for a permit http://petimport.moew.gov.ae/defaulten.aspx.

The import permit validity will be only for one month.
Pets neet to have following vaccinations:

Dogs
Rabies
Canine Distemper Virus (CDV)
Canine Parvo Virus
Infectious Canine Hepatitis
Leptospirosis
Cats
Rabies
Feline Pan Leukcopenia (FPV)
Feline Rhinotrachitics (FHV-1)
Feline Calicivirus
Ferrets
Rabies
Distemper Virus (DV)

You need a certificate indicating the level of antibodies to the rabies virus - antibody levels must be at least 0.5 IU / ml, and the certificate should be from governmental laboratory or accredited laboratory.

The Certificate is not required for the countries from the group below:
Australia, Austria, Andorra, Ascension Island, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Bahrain, Bermuda,Belgium,  Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Fiji,Finland, French Polynesia, Falkland Islands, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland,Italia, Japan, Jamaica, KSA, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Malta, Montserrat, Mauritius, Mayotte, New Caledonia, New Zealand,  Portugal, Qatar, Saint Vincent & the grenadines, Saint Kitts & Nevis, San Marino, Singapore,  Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, U.S.A,Vatican City, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna.

So, we have yo have:
The pet must have a microchip for identification mentioned in the vaccination card
- Dogs and cats must be vaccinated for RABIES within last year, strictly not under age of 3 months. 21 days should be elapsed after the rabies vaccination date as a condition for allowing entrance of the pet.

The pet has to be shipped in Cargo not with the owner :( So even if an air line allowed to have pet on board we can not do it. You can check all conditions for carrying pets on http://www.iata.org.

Each person is allowed to import only 2 pets - law.

Summarize:
We need following documents:
1. Import permit
2. Original Government Health Certificate
3. Original Vaccination Card or Passport
4. Original Certificate for Rabies Serum Neutralization. (The certificate is not required from the aboved mentioned countries)

The importer will pay the fees (400 Dirham per one head) using the E-Dirhams card at the entry point on arrival of the pet.

There are a list of breeds or types of dogs that are prohibited to be imported into UAE, I will not mentioned this list because it changes like in kaleidoscope. Second think is that there are some breeds that you can have when you are living in a villa and can not have when you live in a flat. It is better to write to them and ask.

For further clarification or enquiries you can write to animalquarantine@moew.gov.ae or call +971-42148444.

The cost of air ticket

I bought a ticket from Frankfurt and it cost 400 Euro.
